Bottom of the Ninth #25 - Home

Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them."  John 14:23

Irony and baseball seem to be best friends. Have you ever thought about the fact that a batter enters the batter’s box at home and the ultimate goal is to find his way back home? Technically, it is another base, but no one calls it zero base or fourth base. No, everyone calls it home. Even the shape of home plate is unique compared to the other bases, as in “there’s no base like home” (my apologies to Dorothy!).

The word home conjures multiple mental images, memories of childhood, a connection to our past, a house, a family, ancestors. It can be filled with happiness, sadness, tragedy, triumph, endless feelings. Home - a beginning and an end.

We are at home in our Father’s arms. Again, a place where we start our life and a place where we return at the end of our life. Home ... heaven ... finding our way back.

Father, thank you for home, for being there with us and for us. Wrap your loving arms around us and draw us close to you that we may feel at home with you all our lives.
