Bottom of the Ninth #44 - Mordacai Brown
by Daniel Lorden - Valor Sophomore; Pitcher
A farm accident as a kid caused him to lose two fingers (most of one and part of another), giving him the nickname "Three Finger Brown." He was actually able to rest the ball on the stump of his index finger when pitching, giving him a great curveball. Over his career, he won 239 games and was inducted into the hall of fame. He pushed through pain and disability to become great. None of us here have 3 fingers. There is no reason why we cannot be great, whether it is on the diamond or the workplace. In my personal life, I often feel untrained for what lies ahead, and I feel at a disadvantage. The most recent example of this was when I decided to play baseball 2 months ago. I had not played in 2 seasons, and I was behind in the skill and mental part of the game. Since that time, I have had to push through doubt in order play the game to the best of my ability.
It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. Psalm 18:32-34 NIV
In our weaknesses and disabilities, God is strong, and it makes us stronger. There will be times, this week, this season, in your life, that it will be difficult. No matter who you are. But no matter what, God is bigger than your problems and if you rely on Him, He will make you strong.
