Our ministry is currently working on refining our mission, vision, and core values as we seek to establish a strong ministry plan for the future. The discussions have been rich as we reflect on the successes of the past five years, and as we look forward to impacting more people for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

During one of our recent meetings, I felt convicted to do a Bottom of the Ninth series that focuses on the word RESOURCE in our mission statement. While we have encouraging resources that have been created under the Complete Game banner, we live in a time of infinite content that is available at our fingertips. Wading through that endless stream of sight and sound can be a challenge to say the least. I read and listen to a large amount of content on a weekly basis, and I'm going to shine a light on some of my favorite pieces from the past few months.

Earlier this spring, I stumbled upon and read a book that I have since purchased to give away no fewer that 10 times. The name of the book is Chop Wood Carry Water: How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great and the author Joshua Medcalf. Medcalf's parable is simple, profound, and necessary in a world that could use a healthy dose of delayed gratification.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Everyone wants to be great, until it’s time to do what greatness requires. Dream BIG. Start small. Be ridiculously faithful." This is one of many nuggets in a book that is paced with pieces of wisdom in every chapter. Medcalf's has a special ability to tell a story while weaving in a constant stream of wisdom. I couldn't give a higher recommendation to his books.

Sometimes it's good to remember that the road to mastery is just that - a long road with no end. A true master recognizes that there is no completion in the journey and there is a great beauty in that. In the pursuit of Christ, it is important to stay united, encourage one another, and seek and share resources that enhance of leadership. Chop Wood, Carry Water will encourage you in your journey and I recommend it to all of our Bottom of the Ninth readers.
